Life is not Fair

Hello everyone,

I have observed that there are many styles of art journaling...
Some people do actual journaling...some people just do experimentation...some people journal around quotes...some people just doodle...
Well...I have been trying to find my style of art journaling...and I have realized that I fall in the last 3 categories...
I just love good quotes...
This particular quote is by Bill Gates...

I coloured the background using watercolours...
then I wrote some words with colour pencils...I used the colour pencils in the same colour as the background...
And finally I practiced some handlettering for the quote...
The words "is not" have been written on a piece of black cardstock and stuck on the paper...

This page looks quite simple...but I have used 3-4 different mediums on it.....watercolours...colour pencils...Pigma Micron tip pen...Uniball white gel pen...fascinating.... :)

Art Journal flip-through

Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I came across a blog called Balzer Designs...
And now I am hooked to it...
I look through her blog regularly...there are so many tutorials and How-Tos...so much to learn...
And her posts are awesome...
I just love her style...

I have been trying a few new things...in my Blog Planner/Art Journal...

So here goes a flip-through of my journal...Julie Fei-Fan style...

I made this front-cover a while ago...I also shared a step-by-step for this here

I have been trying to get better at lettering...here's an attempt...A beautiful quote always helps :D

I love love love doodling...and this quote is just so awesome...so when you combine the 2..........

Although I am still not sure if I want to colour it or not....hmmmm.....

Now this is something I am not very good at...creating background with multiple stencils and stamps...But I think this turned out pretty good...

And now....the back side of the cover...I did some photo transfer...yayyy...I love how this turned out...

Art Journal Cover

Hello crafters,

Its hard to keep up with all the challenges...their themes...end dates...and then to keep track of the ideas that just pop-in...the pending DIY projects...
So I decided to make a Blog and Art planner for myself...
I wanted the inside to be pretty simple...but I wanted to try out something new on the cover...
And this is the first time I clicked photos while making the cover...

I read a good quote about Art somewhere...it was pretty long...but I liked the ending...it said "Splash a little paint...draw a little line...have fun"...

I started out with the cover of a cereals pack...its cardboard...so its pretty sturdy...

I cut it to measurements and punched two holes for binding with a ribbon

I did the same with the pages...

Well...as I said its the first time I tried to take in-progress pics...I missed out on the first one :D...
I am always so eager to move to the next step...that I forget to take pics...

Anyways....I applied a mixture of fevicol(glue) and water on the cardboard and then pasted a newspaper clipping on it (you can see it through the paint here). Next I applied a coat of acrylic colour which I thinned down with water to get the translucency...

Then started the zentangle and doodle madness...I covered the front of the cover with doodles and patterns

                

To match with the quote I added splashes of paint...

I also cut out some leaves from scraps of pattern paper and glued them...

Now...time I pasted the quote...I teared it roughly and distressed the edges with Vintage photo...

To finish it off...I went over the whole cover with a mix of fevicol, water and a bit of blue paint (as I wanted to mute the colours of the quote and leaf a bit)

I would like to mention that I was inspired to try out this new technique after I saw a tutorial on My Art Journal. I love Diane's work. You should check it out. She makes such beautiful pieces of art. Its awesome!!!

First Art Journal Page (Beauty)

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I tried something new and I am really excited and happy about it.
Lately I have not been getting enough time to craft. I have been feeling restless because of the lack of creative outlet.
So I thought of giving Art Journalling a try...as it doesn't take much time.

I started by making a simple watercolour background...just some pink...some purple and a hint of red...And I just had to use my rose stencil on it...

Then I started wondering what to write in that empty space and found this quote...

I practiced some handlettering and wrote down the quote...

I gave the beautiful background a twist (to make it my kind of beautiful ;) ) with some tattered paper pieces distressed with Vintage Photo Ink ...

I don't know whether it looks good or not...but it did a hell of a good job calming my restless crafty mind. :D

What do you guys think about my first Art Journalling attempt? Are their any suggestions/tips you like to give?

P.S. I blurred the board pins at the corners so that it doesn't distract from the page.

Sharing a few craft hacks I have learned over the last 2 years....

1. Want to add sentiment in a particular colour but don't have that colour ink
Solution - Stamp the sentiment in black ink and now write over it with your choice of gel pen.

2. Don't have Staz-On on hand
Solution - Use OHP marker or a CD/DVD marker. For stamping, stamp the image on paper and trace on acetate using the marker. For stencilling, just use the marker through the stencil.

                                   


3. How to curl up cardstock
Solution - Spritz the area you want to curl up with water and wait for the paper to absorb the water. Now curl way...

4. Don't have embossing powder/ink and want to create a resist....
Solution - There are many ways to create a resist like using crayons, vaseline, paint markers.

5. Can't find your heat gun
Solution - Heat up a Clothes Iron and apply heat from the back side of the cardstock.

6. Don't know how to apply paint...
Solution - Apply some paint a packaging plastic and smoosh it on your cardstock. Easy and Artsy!

7. Ran out of texture paste
Solution - Use gesso instead. The result will be less dimensional but still great.


8. Cannot seem to do uniform stitching on your card
Solution - Mark dots with your pencil and ruler. Now poke holes with your quilling needle and just run the thread through...Tada...

9. Don't have painters tape...
Solution - Use some cheap washi tape. Easy and affordable solution!
